Q: retina MacBook Pro fan issue

I've noticed when playing games or doing anything graphic intensive, only 1 fan goes on? as far as I know the RMBP 13 inch has a left and right fan but I only ever hear the right fan. I downloaded "macs fan control" and only my right fan shows up there. Is this an issue that needs resolved?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), iOS 8.2

First of all, reset the SMC -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 This part manages fans, so if there is a setting issue this will fix it.

To know whether there is an issue with your Mac, run Apple Diagnostics -> Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support Follow the steps to run it, and when it has finished, tell us if it shows any error message, and if so, it will show you what the problem is. In this case, make a backup of your files and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired. Remember that you can return it for free if you have purchased it in the last 14 days.

Your 2015 MBP has ONE fan.  The very early 13" retinas did have two fans but that was changed with the newer models.

    Ciao.

I tries reseritng the SMC and and I ran a hardware diagnostic and there were no issues. but I still hear it on the right side and not the left? Is there no way I can fix this? It's only a few days old and I live a long way from any Apple Store

Does it? Then why are there vents on the left side of the device?

Hi, OGELTHORPE! Out of curiosity, does that also apply for the Mid 2014 MacBook Pro with Retina display?

If Apple Diagnostics does not show any problem, I think OGELTHORPE is right.

Yes the 2014 13" MBP does have only one fan.  Just to let you know, the iFixit.com website is an excellent source for such information.

    Best regards.

That is the way Apple engineers designed the MBP.  I would surmise it simply is to enhance the ventilation process.

    Ciao.

Thankyou! I had asked an apple "expert" and they told me the device was defected. Obviously they need to some more research on their own products. again thanks

In your case, this is the definitive place to find out about your specific MBP and all of its internal components.
