i find the display contrast is to bright and after trying both settings and keyboard I am unable to get the proper contrast

MY iMac uses os x 10.10.2, processor is 2.7ghz intel core i5, it is a 21.5 display from late 2012, memory is 8 gb,. I am unable to create proper contrast on the screen, i have tried settings display and keyboard adjusting with no improvement.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
