White Screen = PC's blue screen of death?

My MacBook Air is acting unusual. Several times it will have a white screen with a blinking a file folder. In the folder there is a question mark. What does this mean? When this appears my Air freezes and has to be rebooted.


Is this a serious problem? How do I fix it or do I have to take it in to a repair service?
