The code for redemption had been taken off when I scratched it off.

I had been given a gift card from a family member. When I had went to scratch is off, some of the code had also been taken away. It's to the point where I can't even try to guess what it may have been. Is there another way that I can redeem the money that is on the card or is it trash?
