Q: HELP!! Speakers running thru the headphone jack stopped working and the headphone option isn't available in the audio output settings under system prefs??  Trying to get a project out the door and need to be able to hear it!

    iMac PowerPCs being over 8 years old are due for a new PRAM battery every 4 or so years.  This may affect your output settings.   If your PRAM battery is less than 4 years old, then you may need to modify the Audio Midi Setup application, or rest the PRAM.  PowerPC Macs stopped being sold new in 2006.

    If your Mac is newer, you posted in the wrong forum.  If it is the same year, go to Apple menu -> About This to find if it is PPC (PowerPC, PowerMac), or Intel.
