Q: My new Mac Mini cannot locate the source (my old Mac Mini) when using Setup Assistant to transfer data over direct Ethernet connection. How can I resolve?

I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on my old Mac Mini (2010) and it can't seem to find the source, I'm receiving the "Looking for source..." for an hour now even though they are connected directly via Ethernet. Is there a way to resolve or some settings on the source that I need to adjust?

There are no settings to change.
Have you tried another cable?
Rebooted each computer?
Do the Ethernet ports work for an internet connection?
Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

What are you calling the source?

Are you running Migration Assistant on both MacMinis?

Have you installed: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1694?locale=en_CA on the old MacMini?
