where do the messages go? Are they still on the web?

You might be able to get them backup if you restore from a backup made when they were on the iPod. You can't view them on the web.

Unfortunately there is no back up of the iPod… The iMessage actually wasn't simply signed out, the iPod was stolen but I got it back and do not know what was done to it. It was updated and some files were still on it but all the apps were deleted except for ones with accounts logged in like facebook and snapchat which were still logged in some how. 10 out of over 1000 original photos remained. I may try a recovery program so hopefully it would recover the iMessage as well?
Can you view your iMessages after you have logged out of iMessage?
