Mail on my MacBook Pro
I need help setting up Mail on my MacBook Pro. Preferences and Connection Doctor can't be accessed, they are grayed out. Help!!

Thanks. I have had a Mac for decades. I understand Mail but I think I have an issue. It won't take my email account info and I can't access Preferences to Connection Doctor to try to remedy the problem.
Why doesn't it take the info? Are you setting up a new account? Did you select POP or IMAP before starting to enter other information. If you would provide something more by way of what's happening, we may be able to help.
I installed Yosemite. Now when I go to mail I can enter the gmail accounts I want to have in the system but they don't work...I am told "internet account preferences can't connect to Google" I get a preference error to when I try to connect to iCloud
Are you using Google's paid IMAP mail accounts or their free POP accounts? Only the latter will work from Mail. You can visit Google's mail setup site to see how to configure Apple Mail to work with your Google account.
