Google Chrome doesn't shut down correctly

When using Google Chrome I can surf okay for awhile but then my computer just stops responding. When I restart I get the notice that "Google Chrome has not shut down correctly" so I have to force quit and start all over. Sometimes I can surf for long periods, sometimes it stalls after a few minutes. What could the problem be?😠
