Gave my boyfriend my iphone 5, did not reset it. why when he texts me it is coming from my number and when i try to text him it comes right back to me?

Think about it a while. Why did you give it to him? Who has it now? Where did he take and what did he do with it? These are rhetorical questions, btw.
I can't tell you strongly enough how wrong it is to allow anyone to use your iPhone out of your site let alone take it with them. That is something you should never, ever do.
I gave it to him because I got a new 6 plus

I did not want to have to do that since we use the same apps, but thats fine I will do it when I get home
This may not fix a thing if your boyfriend has used your information on his phone.
Does he have his own phone number and his own AppleID? You can configure Message to work around the problem. This of course assumes that you are OK with him having access to all of the information that is on that phone (which is your call obviously).
yes he has his own number and own sI'm card. and there really isn't any info on the phone I deleted all my personal info and he doesn't have my iTunes password or anything
Look at Settings=>Messages=>Send&Receive on his iPhone.
Is his number there or your number?
Look at the same info on your iPhone? Is there any duplication of
entries?
