I just got a new mac mini (2014). OS X 10.10.2 When I connect my iphone 5 to the lightning/usb cable, it rapidly connects and disconnects. iTunes starts but gives me a message that the device has been disconnected. I had no problems on my Windows PC.
Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
- Try another cable.
- Try another USB port
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

I have the same issue.
I have Sierra IOS now, my Iphone 6 with original lighting cable still rapidly connect and disconnect in both USB ports. I already used 5 different light cable and the issue persists. I don't wanna reset any trusted configuration in my device. Can anyone help me with that? Tks!
Could be a bad/dirty USB port or a bad/dirty lightning port
