I don't seem to have the option to send and recieve SMS. There are no options under "Settings"/ Messaging. I used to be able to about a month ago or so but it has disappeared...

The iPad has no native SMS capability.
im actually running OS 8.2 and used to have this functionality but have no idea what changed so that I don't now.
Not without linking it to an iPhone you didn't. iMessage, yes. SMS/MMS, no.
SSo how do I link it to my cell again?
If you have an iPhone you need to enable Text Message Forwarding.
OK, I've gone into my iPhone to do this but it's asking for a code "shown" on my iPad and I have no idea what code they're talking about or where to find it....
The code will be displayed in a pop-up message on your iPad. So just leave the iPad on and unlocked.
No sign of a pop up yet....
It will appear immediately, less than a second usually, after you add the iPad. Both devices must have BlueTooth enabled and be connected to the same WiFi network..
If the code doesn't show, turn it off on the iPhone, then turn it on again, then check your iPad. That happened to me & Re-enabling fixed it.
Note that both devices must be signed into iCloud with the same ID.
Sorry, still no go. I've even checked to make sure "pop ups" aren't blocked on either device. I'm signed into iCloud, have the same wifi connection on both, Bluetooth is on, on both....but no pop up message on the iPad received yet...

i tried cancelling and then re-enabling as you suggested but still no go.... No pop up!
