iMessage won't activate on my iPhone 5c

On my iPhone 5c (ios 8.2), I have tried to turn on iMessage but it just says "Waiting for activation". It has been like this for hours with no change. I have tried to press the "Use your Apple ID for iMessage but when I type it in it just says it failed and that I should check my internet connection. I have done everything I could think of, including hard resetting my whole phone and starting from scratch. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do the following to fix your issue:

1. Go to Settings

2. Go to Messages and turn off iMessage

3. Go to Facetime and turn it off

4. Go to General, Reset, Reset Network Settings

Once you do this, you have to go back and select your wifi network and enter the password. Once your wifi is back up, turn on iMessage and then Facetime - in that order. Once done, your problem should be fixed. If this doesn't help, backup your iPhone to iTunes and then click the Restore iPhone button.
