i need a couple of seconds between songs in my playlists and the musicians don't always oblige.
I'm happy to add an occasional 3 seconds of silence between the offending tracks but when I recorded a track and loaded it into iTunes it wasnot recognized by iTunes Match
any ideas?

WHat do you mean by not recognised? iTunes either matches tracks or upload if not match for eligible tracks. Are the tracks ineligible or uploaded.
itunes match uses the sound profile of the track including its time. If you modify tracks, you may not get a match. If it is matched, it will be with a version that does not have added blank space.

I recorded an MP3 of silence which was added to iTunes but wasnt added to iTunes Match. ive looked for something similar but from the iTunes store but with no result.
If you search for "Brett Black silent" on the iTunes store, you'll find a couple of albums that have completely silent tracks on them. The silent songs range from 5 seconds to 30 minutes in length.
