Managing iCloud...help

Greetings,

Can users contol/manage what is downloaded from iCloud? For example, some days I would prefer to access/download specific songs and or documents on my device that I have purchased (created).

I would like to control what is downloaded via iCloud on my device at any given time. I do not need each document, song (purchased) created on my device every time I login.
