I have some files that I simply want to delete. Various formats - doc, spreadsheets, presentations. I am getting a message saying the files cannot be converted. Please install a newer version of iWorks. I am up to date on iworks and I simply want to delete them not convert them. All files have RW permissions. Anyone else having this problem?

If you control - click on the file and select Move to Trash what happens?

First message I get is "Are you sure want to delete "Blank" from icloud? I select Delete and then the next message is in a "Trash" window that says "Blank" cannot be converted. Please intall a newer version of iworks.
Try creating a folder on your Desktop, drag the file there, and then attempt to move the folder to the trash.
Thank you. I tried that and I still get the same message even trying to drag the file to the new folder. 😕 I am beginning to think it may have something to with these files being created possibly on my ipad and synced through the cloud. I have deleted them from my ipad but I am stuck with them on my macair.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
