i have a G5 iSight & need to update the software so that I can import songs from iTunes to put on my iPod. Does anyone know what upgrade I need please, atm I have Mac os 10.4.11 on Macintosh hd ( think it maybe Tiger ?

Check the iPod's system requirements.
If it's compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.8, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.
If it requires Mac OS X 10.6 or above, you need a newer computer to sync it.

Syncing an iPod to iTunes requires an Intel based Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or above.
It cannot be done on a PPC Mac like a G5.
That's only true for recent iPods; the exact answer depends on the model of iPod, and for iPod touches, what iOS version is on it. The original iPods came out in October 2001, long before the first Intel Mac.
