Macbook Pro late 2014 with OS X Yosemite won't allow me to send text messages to non-iPhones

Hey, I am using a late 2014 model of the Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite and up until recently I was able to send and receive ordinary text messages between non-iPhones and the MacBook with no issues. However now every time that I attempt to do so now I am prompted to enter the password to my google account which is also my Apple ID and although the password I enter is correct it continues to deny me access to this feature. I am also using and iPhone 6 with the latest version of iOS and iMessages work fine as does FaceTime. Any help with resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
