I have an iphone 5 and just yesterday March 29 there was no network. It says no carrier and just keeps on searching. I tried turning on and off the plane mode, turning on and off the power , and even tried rebooting but to no avail nond works. Please help!

I have a prepaid sim (open line/unrestricted) I bought my iphone 5 online in the US and I am at presently in Asia. Its very hard to check with the outlet where i bought my iphone. Im totally clueless.
The phone is probably locked to a US carrier. That carrier is the only one who can authorise an unlock.
The thing is it is unlocked and was petfectly working with our local sim but the carrier just disappear.
Who unlocked it, and did you recently do a firmware update?

Apple unlocked it, or you purchased it unlocked from Apple, because Apple does not unlock phones, only the carrier does. The question was did you recently do a firmware update, because phones that were not properly unlocked will lock again when you do a firmware update. If the restart and reset did not solve the problem, they the next step is a restore from backup, and if that does not work, then restore as new.

I only did update my phone to IOS 8.2 and that's it.

Okay, so you bought from a friend. How did you know the device was unlocked, they told you? It may have been hacked to unlock.
When did you do the update, just before all your problems started? That is why I was asking, but you can see if the restore will get your device back to working.
SHe had it if im not mistaken frm At&t as a replacement of her iphone. i was at their house when she received the packAge. She bought a new samsung so she sold it to me.It was unlocked frm the carrier. Anyhow the problem exist after a few days i updated to IOS 8.2.
If it was an AT&T phone, she would have had to specifically ask for it to be unlocked by AT&T. I would ask your friend if she had AT&T unlock the device. Also, if the restores do not work, then you are going to have to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have the hardware checked.
