Can't open my Microsoft Word

When i try to open microsoft word, an error reporting message pops up saying "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've updated everything that needs to be updated but it won't let me open. What's wrong with my microsoft word? as a student this is a serious problem for me....
