Apple Watch, gift card?

Hey all,

I am new here so not really sure the preferred format of the Users here.

I just have a quick question, hope somebody can answer me: I was reading on some Apple blogs this morning and came across an article which mentioned that if you have an Apple gift Card which you received from trading-in your old iPhone or iPad, they will not allow you to put it towards an Apple Watch purchase (at least not at launch).

Well, somebody bought me an iPad for the holidays last year when I did not need a new one so I returned it for store credit (currently have $700+ sitting on an Apple Gift Card). So my question is, is that considered a trade-in credit, thus negating me using the credit towards an Apple Watch? Or is that considered something else entirely and I have nothing to worry about?
