I can print in color if I hit command p while in Finder. But if I am in Word I can find no setting that will allow me to print in color. I am sure that it is just a setting thing as it prints without hassle from Finder. I know that this is not the right community but I could not find one to post in! I am in 10.9.5

command p just opens the Print dialog in any App.
Microsoft has a support site for Word for Mac. Which I just googled for you.
It sounds like a setting in your Print dialog box. click the down triangle/Show Details if you are seeing the simple view in the Print dialog then hunt through the Presets/Color Matching

There are no options in the options. I go to colour matching and it offers me "color sync" or "in printer" but there is nothing that allows me to choose colour. Even if I change the profile, it just allows me to select a different printer. None of which will print in colour. Odd. Again, thanks for your help.
Oh and I had been to that support community that you suggested thank you, and no luck.

NB That I have saved B&W as a Preset, Color is the alternate option and I have that also saved as a preset:
