Q: Importing a watermark from FCP x to Compressor 4.1

I am making some MPG4's from Pro Res masters. I was wondering if it is possible to import an existing watermark I have created in a FCP X project and lies on the time line and use it as a watermark in Compressor 4.1. If so where would I locate the file, or import it?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

That should be easy in Compressor…except it isn't. When you try to add a watermark in Compressor, it crashes the app. It's a bug that's been widely reported, but so far, no fix.

Thanks Russ for saving me hours of frustration wondering why I'm crashing Compressor. So am I to be live the only way you can create some text I. Compressor is with Text Overlay and if so can you think of any way I could make the text transparent with an outline?

I'd forget doing this in Compressor and would add the watermark in FCP. If your format supports transparency, just import it.

If you're creating a custom effect with your logo, you may also be able to do that in Final Cut. But Motion is more suited to tasks like these.

    Good luck.

i use watermarks on all my new FCPX projects. These are required for old projects already exported to Pro Res where the client insisted on no watermark. Now they have changed their minds

Obviously I'm doing something 'wrong' - works like charm here:

    • watermark is a png made in Pixelmator
    • selected in Compressor as watermark ...
    • processed in Compressor and added in final mov ...

Once used an animated WM (a simple Motion composition as animation_codec.mov) - worked too …

Missed the crash & the reports ... (??)

    feel overlooked ..........

Clearly the German versions were built with more precision!

I'll forward all my reports to you if you really want to feel included.

Seriously, just clicking on Watermark is what brings it all crashing down.  Can;t get as far as the image.
