Why is there a 3 cm purple stripe on my retina macbook screen?

I have a weird purple stripe on my screen when I have a black background with high brightness.

It looks like this:

I am guessing it is like 3cm long and like 0,3 cm thick.

I have done al the software resets (SMC, PRAM stuff like that) and the problem persists. When I start my mac, you can already see the purple stripe due to the black background, even before OS X is loaded. On white you don't see it at all. I think it is the graphics card or screen that is malfunctioning.

Has anybody:

- experienced this?

- found what causes this?

- know if this falls into the replacement programme of the graphic cards that was recently announced here:

Thank you in advance for looking/answering! 🙂

Hi,

Firstly, to isolate what's causing the issue:

Connect the MacBook to an external display and see if the issue is present there.

Also, is the strip still present when you place an application window over it?

Thanks,
Oliver
