Can I use Apple TV to play my iTunes & YouTube on my Monitor?

I thinking of buying a Apple TV, to use the 'Apple TV' Remote to play my iTunes [TV shows/Movies/ Podcasts], also for YouTube on my Monitor from a distance.

I have a early 2009 MacMini [Mac OS 10.10,10.9, 10.6] with old Apple remote, 28 inch Monitor with Elgato EyeTv 3. The Elgato remote works perfectly to receved my TV shows. I do not have a Television set.

Can Apple TV & its Remote play my iTunes & YouTube on my Monitor from a distance? If it cant, then I may need to get a physical remote to work with the Plex System? I must have a physical remote, not a App.

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Mac OS 10.10; 10.9; 10.6

You have to have a physical remote to operate the apple tv. My family has one and I can honestly say that it is awesome. It can play iTunes, Netflix, Youtube, iMovie theatre, etc. You can also stream from your computer (videos, photos, or even just the screen). The apple tv has a home screen where you select what you want to do (Netflix, iTunes, youtube, etc) I'm not quite sure what you mean by "from a distance" but if you mean does the remote work from a distance then yes, it works about the same distance that a normal tv remote does.

Thank you for your reply to my question. The Apple TV come with its own Remote. Is that correct? So, I do not need to have a TV set for the Apple TV to work?

Yes it comes with its own remote (it doesn't have volume buttons though) and you can use it on a regular television.

Thanks again for your reply. I will not be using a regular television, because I dont need one. Just my Monitor, which is conected to my 2009 Macmini. The sound come from the computer which can be controlled from the Macmini remote. So it should work?

I do not have a Television set.

Then unless your monitor has an HDMI input you can't use an Apple TV with it.

if you have a mac mini you need no appletv it does not provide you with anything your computer does not already do

the appletv is a way to get media to the tv without having to connect a computer with a lot of wires to the tv

I think it has a HDMI input, I need to check it. How will it work with my macmini? Will the Apple TV show on my Computer desktop? or am I going to have problems setting it up?

You would need to keep changing the source on the monitor from HDMI to whatever source the Mac uses, other than that I don't see anything different from a 'usual' set up (assuming it has an HDMI input of course.

Thanks for your reply. Your right, when I switch on the monitor, it come on it come on for 'HDMI' then goes into 'Analog' then goes into 'Digital' & I connect my Macmini with a Digital Cable. Maybe the better option is Plex with a physical remote?
