Problems with iMessage! Help!!

When I try and send message through iMessage the people I'm sending them to see my email address. So I've tried changing my send and reciece part to my phone number but it's been greyed out, please help

iPhone 5c, iOS 8.2

I understand that when you send an iMessage through your Messages application, the recipients see your email address and not your phone number and you are not able to select your phone number because it is grayed out. In this situation, I would first recommend completely turning off iMessage, restarting your device, and turning iMessage back on as described in the attached article. If the issue continues, please let me know.


If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support


Turn off iMessage and FaceTime and restart


  1. Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
  2. Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.
