resetting to factory settings

hey I bought a iPhone 4 8gb off someone over a year ago and now I'm currently selling it due to an upgrade of a iPhone 5 but I really need to reset it to factory settings but the person i bought it off had put a restriction code in the settings and I can't get in contact with him in any way, I just need to reset the device so the hardwear will be faster due to it not being reset for over a year, is there any way I can reset it without the password, any help is fine, thankyou

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2, pls help

Make sure you have Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone: OFF

then do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

im currently signed out of icloud because im trying to sell the device, do i sign back into icloud then?

its stuck on a restrictions password and I don't know what it is. iv tried contacking the seller a while back but did not get a response,

Sorry, Activation Lock cannot be bypassed. You'll need the correct credentials (Apple ID & password)

The only way is to contact the previous owner, there's nothing can be done here or by Apple.

If it is signed out of iCloud then Activation Lock is not the issue.

Connect the phone to iTunes on your computer, click on its icon in iTunes, and click Restore iPhone.
