How do I update my canon printer so I can scan onto my mac?

I don't know how to update my printer to allow for scanning to my mac book pro?

The version of mac that I have is OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

My printer is a canon mx420 series

Download and install its drivers here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_s eries/pixma_mx420#DriversAndSoftware


I don't know if that particular model has any dedicated scanning software, but scanning is easily accomplished in Yosemite in at least three ways:


  • The Preview app (select File > Import from ... )
  • The Image Capture app
  • System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (select the Scan tab)


If one of them suits your needs, you won't need to use any other software.
