Cannot access Pages Documents! Help!

A few months ago I wrote an essay for school, on pages. When I tried to go on to the document earlier today, it would not allow me to go on to the document, it told me that I had to update my software when I said okay it took me to the page, but there was nothing to update. Nobody has seemed to answer my specific question, but somebody please reply I need this document for school! Thank you!!
