My Iphone 5c says it is in need of a back up but when I tried to back it up onto my Icloud account its say that my apple mobile device isn't running. Did I do something wrong? Is my phone broken? Help please!

That does not compute. Apple Mobile Device Service is used on a computer only, not for iCloud backup. If you want to back up to your computer get the latest iTunes and install it on your computer (http://apple.com/itunes).
If you want to back up to iCloud, on the phone tap Settings/iCloud and tap Backup. Then tap Backup now.
