Can anyone recommend a programmable wireless mouse for Yosemite?

Hi folks,

I've been using the Magic Mouse for ages now, and have decided it's time to upgrade.

I'm looking for something with programmable buttons that is actually compatible with OS X 10.10. Reason being is I would like to program specific actions to specific buttons on a per-application basis. e.g. a specific button on the mouse could be pressed to execute Photoshop's auto-tone menu command.

Ideally, the mouse would be wireless as well, although it's not mandatory.

I have looked at the Logitech G602, but the user manual seems to show you can only choose certain actions for certain buttons... (is that right or am I mistaken?)

I was also looking at the Razer Naga Epic Chroma, but I'm not certain if that is compatible with OS X 10.10.

I also found the USB Overdrive software, but am uncertain whether or not it supports either of the above mice.

So, does anyone have any recommendations, please?

I'll be using the mouse primarily for work stuff in specialist applications (Photoshop, InDesign, and a bunch of scientific programs) so it needs to let me select app menu items as actions for the mouse buttons. Game integration isn't terribly important, although I understand most custom mice are designed for games...

Thanks in advance for any advice rendered. 🙂

Rather than a programmable mouse that only has a limited number of things it can be taught to consider using a macro application like Keyboard Maestro which can create key combinations to do anything you want, from deleting reoccurring files to opening apps to running actions in Photoshop, and on and on. You can access any menu and submenu in any app and combine it with other functions in that app. All by using one quick key combination.

And not drivers to keep updated every time there's a system update.

Thanks for that, OT. That provides a decent work-around. 🙂

Next question: how can I access the menu items from a program running in a VMWare VM? (I didn't think this through enough, obviously, haha)

(I can see how to use application windows in Keyboard Maestro, but it only lists the OS X menu items, not the Windows menu items running in VMWare)

Thanks again! 🙂
