2009 Macbook Pro Screen gets all trippy

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and lately the screen has been getting all trippy. It looks like tie-dye t shirt. If I restart the computer everything is fine for a while. Nothing freezes when this happens. The popup is for the shutdown option. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks

wow, that's neato-oh you mean, that's not your desktop pattern or a screen saver? Oh boy... I'd suggesting zapping your pram, maybe repairing permissions or resetting the PMU/SMC. to zap the PRAM, restart the computer, hold down the Apple, Option, P and R keys for 3 chimes, then let it go and let the computer boot normally. Info on how to reset the PMU/SMC should be found on Apple's support page. otherwise, could be a gpu problem. I hope you have Apple Care

good luck to you
