Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you recently went back to your older iPhone 3. If you do decide to get the service re-enabled on it and would like to use current apps, I would suggest reading over the attached article first. Keep in mind that some newer apps may not have older versions that are compatible with the iPhone 3 that you would be using.
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support
