Os x utilities

I just received my mac in the mail on Friday, went to use it on Saturday and it booted to the os utilities screen, I callied Mac support and tried to reinstall os x with them on the phone, and it says the disk is locked! she said I would have to take it in to the store.Any ideas on what I could do to get the new Mac working so I don't have to drive 2 hours to an apple store
