Flashing question mark when start-up but..

But when I press option key on start up, the folder doesn't appear but my mouse does. No disc shows up or anything? what could this be? Hard drive?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Several things. Restart with the Command and R keys held down and either repair the internal drive or reinstall Mac OS X; if the Disk Utility doesn't see the internal drive, it's dead or not properly connected.

If your computer originally shipped with a Mac OS X install DVD, insert it and restart with the C or Option key held down; you'll probably find that the internal drive needs to be replaced.
