i want to buy a macbook pro retina 13'' and i want to know if i can use an external display with a normal hdmi cable without converters. I read that i can have some troubles due to the resolution of retina.

Can i use a normal monitor not 4k ?
Yes. The figures are above are maximums. The MacBook Pros have a scaling function that allows you to set various outputs depending on how small you can tolerate the icons etc. and how much screen space you need.
