iPod Touch 16 GB does not update to iOS 8

My iPod Touch 16 GB does not update to iOS 8. It is noted that iOS 6.1.6 is the newest version yet.

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6

This would indicate that you have a 4th generation, and 6.1.6 is the highest possible.
