Converting protected m4p files to m4a files ?

Hi. . .

I have tried to convert my protected files . .

I have re downloaded them as per many instructions here on the forums .

The resulting files have changed in iTunes from "protected aac" to "purchased aac" .

But, upon looking at them in the finder, they are still m4p . .

Any one got any ideas ?

If I go to the product in the store it says "purchased" where one would normally see "buy". .

Is there no way to re attempt to purchase again there & it then says you've purchased already, then you re download ? . I'm sure I've done that in the past .

Hi Joshua, iTunes Match operates on your whole library, which can be up to 25,000 songs. However, you can choose which songs to upgrade, by deleting the original and downloading the matched copy.

See iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and look at the section on "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?"

Hi Ed.

Thanks. .

So, one more question if I may. .

With iTunes Match, do I have to "sync" my entire library ? Or is it possible to select items to sync?

To clarify ed’s response...

iTunes match uses the entire library and the entire library shows up on you iPhone.

But you can download none/some/all songs on to the iPhone.

You can still listen to them all (stream instead of download) even if you do not download any.
