service battery alert and questions

Hi I have MacBook Pro purchased November, 2012 (13inch, 2.5 GHz, i5 4GB memory) in CA, USA.

I have been living in the UK since 2014 and today I have had an alert on my macbook saying ''service battery''.

I've noticed for the last three months that my laptop freezers more, lasts only about 3hours on battery, and I have the memory clean app and it constantly is about 20-90MB.

Charge Information:

Charge Remaining (mAh): 726

Fully Charged: No

Charging: No

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4496

Health Information:

Cycle Count: 350

Condition: Service Battery

Battery Installed: Yes

Amperage (mA): -1104

Voltage (mV): 10829

Battery Power:

System Sleep Timer (Minutes): 10

Disk Sleep Timer (Minutes): 10

Display Sleep Timer (Minutes): 2

Wake on AC Change: No

Wake on Clamshell Open: Yes

AutoPowerOff Delay: 14400

AutoPowerOff Enabled: 1

Current Power Source: Yes

Display Sleep Uses Dim: Yes

Reduce Brightness: Yes

Standby Delay: 4200

I understand that I need to get this serviced, and I have a few questions as I am completely clueless!

1) how bad is my battery

2) is this caused by living in the UK now and my US macbook battery is related to a different voltage?

3) I've only had this macbook for 2 years. I am a student and use it everyday so it is being used a lot.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Your battery capacity is a bit low with only 350 cycles, but it should not be a reason to get it replaced. That Service Battery message is probably related to some hardware issues.
  2. Probably not. That should not be a problem, as you can charge your MacBook Pro everywhere.

Cannot tell from the available information.

No. The power adapter can handle both USA and UK voltages.

You do not need the memory clean application it serves no useful purpose. The OSX will control the use of RAM.

You should make an appointment to have the battery evaluated and replaced if necessary. Bring the charger with you.

For you other issues, download and post an Etrecheck report:

Thank you so much for your help! I have downloaded and run the Etrecheck app and this was my result:

does it show up any other information or should I just book a genius appointment?

I see nothing in the Etrecheck report that stands out regarding the MBP freezing.

I would reset the SMC and NVRAM:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Also boot into the recovery partition and select Disk Utility>First Aid. Run Verify and Repair.

See if that eliminates the freezing. If not, mention that to the technician when you have your battery examined.

Ciao.
