Connecting two iPods

I am trying to connect an iPod touch (4th Gen; ios6.1.6) with an iPod touch (5th Gen; ios8.2) but they are not detecting each other. I have re-started both devices and reset the network settings. In both cases the result was the same and neither device could detect the other. Is there an incompatibility between Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.0? If not, what other options do I have to get them to detect each other?

As far as I know, that is not supported. Why are you trying to connect them?

Hi Barry,

My son has a game (that has a "local play" feature) that he wanted me to play with him. He's got the iPod 5th gen and I was going to commandeer his older brother's older iPod to play along. If it isn't supported, I might have to try my wife's iPad and see if that will work. Or, maybe just get myself an iToy of sorts!

Thanks for you quick response!
