When mixing different memory sticks see:
i have installed 32GB Kingston RAMs but did not find any difference in performance, my computer was giving batter performance before this upgrade.
Just how are you qualifying performance?
More memory only increases performance if memory is the bottleneck.
Higher clocked processors if it is processor bound. An 8 core 3.2GHz or dual 6-core 3.33GHz (the difference between X5680 vs 90 is not enough to justify usually).
PCIe SSD(s) if it is IO bound.
Even dual socket cpus are not ideal unless you need 8-cores or above for video or something.
6 x 8GB would be one configuration, or 6x4GB rather than using 4 DIMMs per bank. But that is marginal difference and hard to quantify outside of very synthetic tests.
