iPod Touch playlists backwards

Most of my Smart Playlists, which are sorted by album or by year, are playing in backwards order on my iPod Touch 6.1.6 - so the actual albums are in the right order but it's playing the last track first, first track last. I've tried "copy to play order" and that doesn't seem to be working.
