Seagate Expansion drive not appearing on MBP

I have a late 2013 retina MBP and when I try to hook a Seagate Expansion 1TB up to it, there is no trace of a hard drive being connected. The drive doesn't appear on System Information or disk utility. I've tried everything from downloading NTFS drivers, using different USB cables, booting and rebooting, and even reformatting the drive to exFAT with no success. The drive works perfectly on windows laptops and I know my Mac should at least be able to read the drive, but it doesn't. Any help will be appreciated, thank you in advance.
