That depends largely on your use and the batteries you use. I use the Apple rechargeable batteries and have to change them for a freshly charged set every 2 to 3 months.
I use regular Duracell Alkaline batteries in my mouse and keyboard. Experience seems similar to KiltedTim's.
The mouse goes about 2 months and the keyboard 4 months.
Completely dependent on usage.

I'm afraid my experience with Apple rechargeable batteries in no way matches that of Kilted Tim. My machine is in use on average about 3 hours per day. I do not play games. The batteries will last on average 14 to 18 days before reaching 8 or 9% and needing changing. I have experimented with Duracell regulars and while they did not achieve the 2 months found by Ralph, I did obtain 4/5 weeks from them.
I think I would be more understanding if my iMac was heavily used, but it isn't. I browse the net, read a little and answer about a dozen questions here. That's it.
So I guess, Denise, you need to accept rather less in performance terms than Apple will tell you.
