new macbook doesn't find iphotos in search by filename

old macbook pro can find, e.g., filename IMG_1111.jpg, and the photo can be placed from photoshop or indesign.

new macbook pro running yosemite cannot find filenames in a search and cannot place photo from photoshop or indesign. can only open the photo from iphoto using edit.

this is a huge problem for me.

Hi jcm77,

Spotlight, the tool which indexes and searches the content of your Mac, will not index the contents of your iPhoto Library. This prevents accidental deletion of content from the iPhoto Library, or other harmful accidental manipulation. There is however an option within iPhoto to edit with another Application, like Adobe Photoshop. To enable this option, simply open your iPhoto Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, and next to Edit Photos select the application you would like to edit with.

Advanced preferences - iPhoto Help

Take care,

Alex H.
