I have a new 80g 5thG iPod and I have noticed that some of the artist names are not showing up in the menu. When I search for the album I find that the entire album is loaded on the iPod and works fine. But the artist name never shows up..
Has anyone had the same problem and if so were you able to fix it and how?
Never personally had this issue, but first steps to try are doing a reset on the iPod (do it more than once to make sure everything resets). If that doesn't fix it, then try a restore. Patrick
Yep...Same exact problem.
I can't get Dr. John or Doctor John to show up.
I've eliminated the entire album and re-installed it.
I've checked the "I" info area and it appears???
Very Strange?
The one solution read was to "Reset" but
what does reset do??? elimate??? what
It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
Thank you for the info.
Yes, I have Compilation checked for ALL my albums to get rid of the multiple
Album Covers for each song. Am I doing this correctly?
I thought an Album was a Compilation??? or should I be using this feature for only multiple albums?
If I do this how can I eliminate a album cover showing for each track then in the new FLIP Album Cover feature?
Lots of questions...but thanks, Tom
Compilation albums are generally regarded as "greatest hits" type albums or those awful "now that's what I call music" albums.
Any album marked as a compilation will not show up in the artists menu, and it's done to prevent the artist menu being cluttered with single entries.
If you (or more frequently the CDDB) incorrectly mark an album (let's say The Beatles/Abbey Road for an instance) as a compilation, The Beatles will not be listed under artists.
To correct the album artwork issue, you would have to assign the same album picture to all the songs on any one album to ensure that different images were not displayed for each song.
Thank you, It all make perfect sense now but how do you assign the same album picture to all the songs, without having 15 of the same albums flip in iTunes new visual feature?
You folks are good....I had the same problem, now all is well.
One quick question, is there a way to search for all albums listed as "compilations". I exclusively use "Artists" as my search tool on my Ipod, I now wonder how much music I dont see.
