I only have 40 photos, but iTunes reports 1.2GB and 508 photos?

I don't understand it. I just restored to try and get rid of this problem but restoring did nothing. The recently deleted photo queue is empty, and I have no videos at all. iTunes says that I have 508 photos, which is completely wrong. Where are all of these hidden photos that are taking up so much space on my phone?
