Finder window shifts up when maximised/fullscreen?

When a Finder window is maximised (fullscreen view), it is normal. But whenever I try to move a file it will do this glitch thing and the whole window will move up. There will be a large black space at the bottom and you can't see the top of the viewing window, or the top of the folders in the side viewing panel. You're unable to sort files/folders by any criteria in the list view which is incredibly annoying. Is there some way to stop this happening?
