I have been using a Rocketfish HDMI adapter with my 2013 Macbook Pro, and it stopped working a couple months ago. I have tried different cables, monitors, and I just bought an Insignia adapter and it still doesn't work. What's the problem?

I'm not the only one with this problem, and Apple doesn't seem to be doing anything about it.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
