Updating Keynote '08 files for use with 6.5.2.
I have some older Keynote presentations I made in Keynote '08 (v 4.0.4) on my iBook/G4 running OS X 10.4.11. As that machine's slowly dying, I recently bought a 2013 MBA Apple Refurb running Yosemite 10.10.2 and Keynote 6.5.2. But I still have uses for those Keynote files.
When I went to open my presentations on my MBA, the message I get is "This presentation can't be opened because it's too old. To open it, save it with Keynote '09 first.
I found boxed versions of iWork '09 on Amazon for around $22. And the seller notes that "The install DVD says... System requirements: Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (500MHz or faster) processor 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended) 32MB of video memory Mac OS X v10.4.11, or Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later."
So I assume it's a universal binary. I think I would first try to install it on the old iBook if possible (it has issues), and just use it to open and re-save the files. There aren't that many files and I have no other uses for a older version of the suite.
But if I end up having to install it on my newer Air I have questions....
1. Will the '09 app create any conflicts with my newer version of Keynote?
2 And if I uninstall it form the MBA after converting those files, will it leave any junk around that could create problems for me?
Finally, whichever Mac I install it on, am I likely to run into registration/authorization issues with software from this era....??
Any input appreciated, thanks.
